As we celebrate Black History Month, we must honor the individuals who continue to impact our diverse communities profoundly. One such luminary is Honey Mahogany, an activist and politician whose work has reverberated throughout San Francisco, leaving a legacy of change and inclusivity. As residents of this vibrant city, as members and allies of the LGBTQIA+ community, and as humans advocating for equality, let's explore the powerful strides made by Honey and the indelible mark she's left on our hearts and society.

Advocacy for LGBTQIA+ Rights

Honey Mahogany has become synonymous with staunch advocacy for LGBTQIA+ rights in San Francisco. Through her unwavering dedication, Honey has been a beacon of hope and a voice for the voiceless. She shows us the power of standing up for what is right by pushing for transformative policies and nurturing a culture of acceptance. Her actions inspire countless others to join the fight for equality and demonstrate that true progress is born from passion and perseverance.

Significant Role in Local Politics

Honey's influence extends deeply into local politics, where she has been a pivotal force in advocating for the needs and rights of the LGBTQIA+ community. Shattering ceilings, Honey Mahogany proudly served as the first transgender person on the San Francisco Democratic County Central Committee (DCCC), and her leadership skills shone brightly as she was elected chair in 2021. Her political journey showcases the strength of representation and the profound impact of having diverse voices at the decision-making table.

Achievements and Recognition

Beyond her political accolades, Honey's charisma and charm captured the nation's attention on the fifth season of Ru Paul's Drag Race. This platform spotlighted her talent and underscored the richness of drag artistry as a form of expression and empowerment. Her celebrity has magnified the issues close to her heart and influenced positive change.

Moreover, as a testament to her visionary spirit, Honey Mahogany co-founded The Transgender District in San Francisco alongside Janetta Johnson and Aria Sa'id. As the district's first director, Honey has fostered a sanctuary for transgender people — a place where history is honored, the community thrives, and the future is cultivated with hope.

Honey Mahogany's journey is a tapestry woven with determination, advocacy, and love. Her contributions to the LGBTQIA+ community are immeasurable, and her impact on San Francisco is as colorful and enduring as the city itself. Let's take inspiration from Honey's bravery and commitment to lifting others, continuing learning, supporting one another, and never shying away from advocating for a fairer, more inclusive world.

As our city's beacon of inclusivity, Honey has brightened our lives with her radiant presence and guided us toward a more compassionate and understanding community. May we all strive to embody such grace and resilience in our lives, as we work together to weave a society where everyone is celebrated for who they are.

We are also thrilled that Serge Gay Jr chose our building to paint a wonderful mural honoring black queer women. Stop by our neighborhood in the Castro to view the mural in person!

Join us in celebrating Honey Mahogany — an icon of empowerment, a warrior for justice, and an ever-shining star in the San Francisco constellation. Let's keep the light of change burning bright for generations to come.
